Leaf & Lyre Urban Farms
is a Calgary family venture that seeks to create beauty and bring life to our city spaces through the cultivation of backyard gardens. Utilizing the strategies of the innovative SPIN (Small Plot INtensive) Farming technology, we use urban yard space to generate working acreage within the city, taking advantage of the longer seasons produced by ambient city heat and the relative lack of crop-damaging creatures (deer, rodents, some insects, etc.) to grow and sell super-fresh vegetables and herbs.
Our operation centers in the Westgate and Glendale communities, but we seek to serve the Southwest quadrant of the city. It is our conviction that the flat and artless lawns that have so long described our suburban spaces need to be revitalized, and that the vegetable and floral life of a well-planned and well-tended garden brings with it the variety of insect and bird life that characterizes a healthy natural ecology.
Come visit us at the HILLHURST-SUNNYSIDE FARMERS' MARKET between 3:30 and 7:30 pm on Wednesdays, beginning in mid-June 2011.

◊ Let us know if you have any UNUSED COMPOST and we'll come collect it and put it to work creating healthy soils.
